Hi
Just wandered if any of you are suffering with teeth problems and can it be related to the RA?
Over the last rew months i have had 2 of my teeth brake,i know it sounds silly but i feel as though my teeth are weak.I also have a problem with my jaw and under my tongue i now have a bone sticking out.Might just be were i have alot of fillings and 41 years of use!!

Hi Poppy, Ive recently had an abcess (never had anything like it pre RA) so dont know if its related at all. I do get quite a few ulcers on my tongue.

Hi Poppy
I seem to have had a lot of problems with my teeth in the last couple of years and have had several lots of antibiotics to sort out infections as well as a tooth out and root treatment, I wondered if it was something to do with the medication. There is a separate posting about jaw problems which also seem to be quite common.
You never know what this disease will throw at us next.

Hi Poppy,
Don't get me started on dental problems! It was taking erythromycin for a tooth abscess that landed me in hospital last week!
I have been plagued with tooth abscesses ever since I started with RA. I take humira and dental problems are listed in the side effects but I've only been on it for 3 years and my problems started well before that.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that with RA we should take great care with our teeth, and I do. I brush and floss and have 6 monthly checkups, do all we are supposed to do but still keep getting the abscesses.

Yes Poppy-another tooth sufferer here! I am on Humira and MTX and my teeth just don't feel 'right' hard to explain really but sometimes they feel as if someone is trying to actually pull them out of the gums! Lots of sore gums too. YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Just call me gummy! Since the advent of RA and mtx etc I have had to have half of my teeth removed, despite the fact that I clean and floss religiously. I am now saving up for a bridge for the upper teeth, but it's going to cost about 6 grand, and that's a lotta money for a few teeth!

hi,at my last dental check up i had a good chat with my dentist who is very nice and he told me that yes R.A can upset teeth,i have dentures have had for yonks but i get red spots on my gums,this is something i get now and then but i do go for my regular checks,it is never ending,  the spots dont hurt too much just annoying

I have had part of one tooth break this year, lost another filling (although it wasn't "flat" and managed to get ripped off by a Greg's baguette) and then ended up with a cavity in a back tooth that gave me cronic toothache even with all the medication for RA. I've had issues previously but not quite so many in such a short period of time, my suspcians are on the Prednisalone but it could well be any of the drugs I would imagine (I'm on MTX and Sulphasalozine too). I blame the pred for most things at the moment.  Nicola

Unfortuntely yes, one tooth extracted, abcess and gum infections all in just over a year. It a pain in the backside.

My Dentist said I would be prone to cavities etc and has put me on Duraphat toothpaste. She said this would help to prevent problems and also sensitivity. It is 5.00 per tube from the Dentist but lasts a long time. It is high in flouride so mustn't be swallowed. I have had no problems since using it. Well worth a try.

My dentist told me I'd probably lose a lot of my teeth by the time I was 40 due to my RA, I've not had any major problems though thank heavens. I invested in a sonicare toothbrush and tend to buy the more expensive toothpaste's, not sure if this has helped, but I can still devour pork scratchings <giggle> Arthur really does have a lot to answer to sometimes.
